This page explains what information OreCart Driver uses, why it is needed, and how it is protected.
OreCart Driver is developed and maintained by Believer's Byte for use by authorized personnel supporting Colorado School of Mines shuttle operations.
This Privacy Policy explains what information OreCart Driver accesses or processes, how that information is used, when it may be shared, and the choices available to users.

1. Information OreCart Driver Handles
OreCart Driver processes only the information needed to provide shuttle-driver and operational functionality.
Account and Authorization Information
This may include:
Email address
Assigned driver number
Account role, such as Driver or Supervisor
Account status
Accounts are provisioned by authorized administrators and are not available for public self-registration.
Firebase Authentication is used to authenticate users. Password setup and password-reset functionality are handled through Firebase Authentication. OreCart Driver does not store users' passwords in its operational database.
Profile Information
The app may store certain information and preferences on the user's device, such as:
Name
Preferred route
Assigned or selected vehicle information
App preferences
Some locally stored information is used to improve the user experience and support normal app operation.
Shuttle and Operational Records
While using OreCart Driver, authorized users may create operational records including:
Passenger boarding and exiting counts
Stop and route information
Timestamps associated with passenger activity
Bicycle loading counts
Vehicle odometer readings
Fuel-level information
Pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection results
Inspection notes and related operational information
These records may be associated with the assigned driver number and are stored using Google Firebase Cloud Firestore.
2. Location Information
OreCart Driver may request access to the device's location while the app is in use.
Location is used for two purposes:
Helping determine the nearest OreCart shuttle stop
Displaying local weather information
OreCart Driver does not perform background location tracking.
Location used to determine the nearest stop is processed by the app and is not stored in Cloud Firestore.
When the local weather feature is used, the device's latitude and longitude are sent to OpenWeatherMap so that weather information for the user's current area can be returned. OreCart Driver does not send the user's name, email address, driver number, or other account information to OpenWeatherMap as part of that request.
Users may deny location permission. Core OreCart Driver functionality remains available, although features such as automatic nearest-stop selection and local weather may be unavailable.
3. How Information Is Used
Information handled by OreCart Driver is used to:
Authenticate authorized users
Determine whether a user is permitted to access the app
Apply Driver and Supervisor permissions
Associate operational activity with the appropriate driver
Record shuttle ridership activity
Record vehicle and inspection information
Support route and stop operations
Generate operational and management reports
Maintain application functionality and user preferences
Provide local weather and nearest-stop functionality
Information is not used for behavioral advertising.
OreCart Driver does not sell personal information.
4. How Information Is Shared
Information is shared only as reasonably necessary to operate OreCart Driver and support OreCart shuttle operations.
Google Firebase
OreCart Driver uses Google Firebase services, including:
Firebase Authentication
Used for account authentication, login, and password-management functionality.
Cloud Firestore
Used to store authorized-user information and operational records such as ridership, vehicle, and inspection data.
Google processes information handled by these services in accordance with its applicable terms and privacy practices.
OpenWeatherMap
When the weather feature is used, approximate or precise latitude and longitude information may be transmitted to OpenWeatherMap for the purpose of retrieving current local weather information.
No OreCart account identity information is intentionally included with that weather request.
Colorado School of Mines
OreCart Driver is used in support of Colorado School of Mines shuttle operations. Authorized supervisors may access operational information, including driver, ridership, vehicle, and inspection records, as necessary for shuttle operations, reporting, oversight, safety, and administration.
5. Information OreCart Driver Does Not Intentionally Collect
Based on the current functionality of the app, OreCart Driver does not intentionally collect:
Advertising identifiers for advertising purposes
Payment or financial information
Health or fitness information
Biometric information
Contacts
Calendar information
SMS messages
Call logs
Microphone recordings
Background location
Photos or videos
Personal information for advertising or marketing profiles
OreCart Driver currently does not use third-party advertising SDKs or active third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
6. Data Security
Believer's Byte takes reasonable measures to protect information handled through OreCart Driver.
Network communications with Firebase and other services used by the app are transmitted using encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.
Access to Cloud Firestore data is controlled through authenticated user accounts and authorization rules. Driver accounts are restricted to the operational data they are authorized to access, while Supervisor accounts have additional permissions necessary for management and reporting.
No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but reasonable technical controls are used to reduce unauthorized access.
7. Data Retention
Account and operational information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to support:
Shuttle operations
Safety and vehicle-inspection records
Operational reporting
Recordkeeping
Contractual or institutional requirements
Legal or regulatory obligations
Troubleshooting and support
Some operational records may need to be retained even after a user's account access has ended.
When information is no longer reasonably necessary for these purposes, it may be deleted or de-identified where appropriate.
8. Account Access, Correction, and Deletion
Users may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with their OreCart Driver account by contacting:

We may need to verify the identity of the requester before completing a request.
Authorized administrators may deactivate a user's access to OreCart Driver when that user should no longer have access to the system.
A request to remove an account does not necessarily require deletion of every operational record previously created through that account. Certain records, such as vehicle inspections, ridership information, or other operational records, may be retained where reasonably necessary for safety, recordkeeping, contractual, institutional, or legal purposes.
Where appropriate, retained records may be separated from information that is no longer necessary to identify the former user.
9. Children's Privacy
OreCart Driver is an operational workforce application intended only for authorized shuttle personnel.
The app is not designed or directed toward children, and accounts are not available for public registration.
Believer's Byte does not knowingly use OreCart Driver to collect personal information from children.
10. Third-Party Services
OreCart Driver depends on third-party services that may process information according to their own terms and privacy policies.
These currently include:
Google Firebase — authentication and cloud data storage
OpenWeatherMap — local weather information
Users may review the privacy policies of those providers for additional information about their data practices.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to OreCart Driver, its features, legal requirements, or data-handling practices.
When material changes are made, the Last Updated date at the top of this page will be revised.
Users are encouraged to review this page periodically.
